Submit written testimony:
Written testimony needs to be submitted by Monday, March 6th by the end of business day . Send your written testimony to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Provide verbal testimony in-person:
Attend the hearing in-person. Plan to arrive at least 10-15 minutes before the start of the hearing to sign up. There will be a sign up list for people who wish to speak for HB 2620. The hearing also has 3 other bills scheduled during that session. If there are many people who wish to speak, it is possible that time will run out and some won't be able to speak.
The committee chair will call people up to testify from the sign-in sheet. Do not read your testimony. Have an outline to talk from. Plan to talk only 2 – 3 minutes. Don’t be nervous. The committee does not expect perfection.
- At the beginning of testimony address the chair, then members of the committee, then state your name and the organization you are representing (if appropriate) or where you are from: “Chair Barker and members of the committee, my name is Pam Bessler. I am currently the president of the Oregon Emergency Nurses Association.” Or “ Chair Barker and members of the committee, my name is _____ and I am a resident of Beaverton.”
- State up front your position on the bill. “I am here today to support HB 2620 . . .”
- At the end of testimony, thank the committee and offer to answer questions: “Thank you for the opportunity to testify today. I would be happy to answer any questions.”
- When answering a question, respond: “Chair Barker, Representative (last name of member who asked question), . . .then give your answer.
