DescriptionMedTrust is seeking a full time and PRN RNs to work at the Jackson County Jail!

  • Facility: County Jail housing both male & female detainees & sentenced inmates
  • Location: Medford, Oregon
  • Schedule: PRN



Key Responsibilities
  • Assists in the evaluation of the physical and mental health of incarcerated patients both in the medical department and in the housing units
  • Collaborates with security, mental health, and other medical staff in all aspects of patient care
  • Must be able to remain focused and perform duties in a fast-paced, often stressful environment
  • Uses Standard Precautions to always administer medical care with respect and dignity under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or medical practitioner in accordance with established MedTrust Policies and Procedures
  • Responds to medical and mental health emergencies throughout the facility using approved protocols
  • Documents all patient encounters using the appropriate MAR or SOAPE form of charting (paper and/or EMR) as required by MedTrust policy and procedure
  • Administers medications according to all medication administration rights and in accordance with MedTrust Policies and Procedures and any specific practitioner directions. Medications may be given PO, IM, or IV (when certified) and patients will be monitored for adverse drug reactions.
  • Assists the health care practitioner in clinic or during minor medical/surgical procedures as needed
  • Communicates information to nursing staff, physician, health care unit supervisory personnel, and other staff as necessary.
  • Completes diagnostic testing when ordered including EKGs and lab collection (blood and urine) when certified. Communicates results with the provider as appropriate
  • Attends mandatory monthly staff meetings and annual trainings.
  • Keeps an accurate perpetual count of all sharps (including but not limited to needles, syringes, scissors, etc.) and all narcotics and controlled substances
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Must submit to a criminal background check and obtain/maintain security clearance
  • Must have unrestricted OR license
  • Must have Basic Life Support - BLS (AHA)
  • Must have a minimum of 12 months of hospital, Urgent Care or Outpatient Primary Care Clinic experience.
