Department Overview
The Noninvasive Cardiology department provides care to adult patients over the age of 18. Stress testing of pediatric patients is also managed in the Noninvasive Cardiology department (Pediatric Attending MD or Physician's will be present for those procedures).
Procedures include: transthoracic echo, exercise stress echo, treadmill stress tests, CPEX and VO2 testing, pharmacological stress echo, and the exercise and/or pharmacological stress portion of nuclear perfusion tests (RNs administer the medications and monitor the patient's response to the procedures). Transesophageal echo is done under conscious sedation in the Procedural Care Units on Marquam Hill and CHH2.

The OHSU registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. This position requires independent critical thinking, care coordination, engagement in transitions of care, and the ability to appropriately triage patients with complex, multi-system medical problems. The RN must be able to work as a team with providers, nurses, echo technicians, EKG technicians, medical assistants, schedulers, and all other disciplines as needed, and functions in a collaborative manner to ensure effective and timely communication with the patient, family and other team members.

Required Qualifications
- 2 years recent cardiac RN experience in ambulatory and/or acute care setting
- Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
- Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
- Current, unencumbered Washington State Registered Nurse License
- BLS and ACLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) - must not expire during orientation
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
- Advanced triage skills; telephone triage experiences, advanced knowledge base supporting general cardiology to include cardiovascular disease, cardiac specific medications, arrhythmias, and interventions
- Previous experience working with patients with arrhythmias and cardiac rhythm disorders
- Experience in an ambulatory and procedural setting
- Certification in a cardiovascular nursing specialty
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills in a variety of collaborative settings
- Demonstrated experience in patient and family education, including development of teaching materials
- Previous experience working with patients with implanted cardiac devices and other advanced cardiac therapies
- Excellent organizational skills
Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
- Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
